Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Counta was created by Richard Williams

I have just purchased the Eventon extension and receive the following error when using the events module

Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /public_html/modules/mod_jux_eventon_events/helper.php on line 52

Map module also does not work.

Not impressed so far. Website demo isn't working also which isn't filling me with confidence.
How was this solved for others?

Joomla version: 3.9.20
PHP: 7.2

if (is_array($select_venue) && is_array($select_cat) && count( $select_cat) != 0) :
