SEF Routing

Hi guys,
this may be just a function of my template, but...

If I set my front page (home menu item) to show a grid or list of events, but also have a menu item that displays the events grid/list view with SEF URL's enabled (.htaccess or Joomla! Only) when the user clicks on an event to view it or clicks on an event "Upcoming Events" module, the router will only select the front page (home menu item) to display the event on, this is an minor issue as all other front page modules etc (in this case an image-slider) still displays over the top of the main event page, which is not desired.

Is there any way around this? So the router will choose the real Event List menu item and not the front page?
