Level 1 hover over color

I cannot get the level 1 hover over color to change.

It is a pale grey, and I want it to be white or blue.

ul.level1 li.megacss a.megacss {
background-color: black !important;
border: 5px solid purple !important;
}

Gives me the black with a purple border where I want to test... But as soon as I add :hover it does not work

How do I do this?

I want to change the background of the HOVER from that grey to something else.
