I am displaying a portfolio of 36 items on 3 pages (12 per page)
3 categories are used.
if I click a category filter only the actual page is filtered. In worst case the page is empty, though there are items of the filtered category on other pages.
User might think there are NO other items because they see an empty page
Can You change it that all filtered items are displayed started on page 1 and recalculate amount of needed pages?

Yes, all items needed to be filtered. Let me descibe it this way
Total of items: 36, displayed on 3 pages
They are assigned to 3 categories. Cat. 1 has 5 items, cat. 2 has 20 items and cat 3 has 11 items.
When applying a filter this shall result in
Filter cat 1: 1 page with 5 items
Filter cat 2: 2 pages with 12 items on the first and 8 items on the second page.
Cat 3: 1 page with 11 items.
As it is now only items of current page are filtered. In some cases this leads to an empty page, though there are items of this category on other pages. Very confusing for users.
To make it short. Filter always shall be applied on all items. Pages are just a way to display long lists of items in a shorter form.

Pagination is not displayed anymore and does not match settings.
Setting: 12 items, 6 columns on desktop
All: Total 36 items. 12 are displayed - no pagination
SPEZIAL: 18 items, all 18 displayed on 1 page, no pagination
other 2 categories are 12 or less items, so no pagination is needed.
While displaying all filtered on 1 page without paination is not best practice but ok.
"ALL" has to display ALL items, not just first page without pagination.

I understand, but if you want to filter as you like, then you have to hide paging and almost no paging function, and if you want it to work with paging, I think you should use the module, it loads more. button instead of pagination and I will also customize the current one for you
or you have to hide the current pagination

I now changed the page to use the module instead of the component.
Please do customization and let me know which file(s) are altered. Is it a Joomla override?

..modules/mod_jux_portfolio_pro/tmpl/default.php
If you want to install it somewhere else, you can copy all the code in this default file and paste it where you want because I have edited a lot of code so it is difficult to show you the lines I have edited.
