Obviously, when you start your own site, it is always a big question to decide which CMS is good to rely on among the 4 giants: Joomla!, WordPress, Drupal and Magento. It’s not so easy and simple to make decision immediately but it takes time to consider because you need to clarify which kind of your site is, which one will help you get your goal, etc.

Of course, you don’t want me to introduce these 4 CMSs. Therefore, I just want to show you some reasons why Joomla! CMS is the ideal option for you, why it is a better option than others. After finishing this article, I hope you can save time in making decision. Let’s go through 5 following reasons:

1. Joomla is no longer a CMS but a framework.

Joomla! is the only big player that successfully adjusted to modern market needs so far. It no longer addresses private website users (though it still can) but almost any-size websites with special and mixed requirements. Did I tell you that Pizza Hut, Havard University , MTV Greece or The Hill have been using Joomla! framework? If you’re gonna do a big project, it’s best to use Joomla!. Framework is great for building command-line tools which are often necessary when running large-scale projects; this is extremely useful for job schedulers like cron, and the Joomla! framework may help you to build RESTful services and create integrations with 3rd party services.

2. Templates and Extensions.

Unlike WordPress and Drupal, Joomla! doesn’t have its own template directory but only extension directory. Joomla has a large and diverse template market. We can’t compare it to the huge amount of WordPress themes, but there are some features that quietly make Joomla! outstanding. While most WordPress themes focus on basic and simple styles without adding any additions expanding the layouts or features, or limited guarantees in terms of future updates and customization, Joomla! templates are released with large numbers with ongoing technical support and updates, not only just to work with newer versions of Joomla! but also incorporating bug fixes or customization. Because Joomla! templates mostly come from the third developers whose mission is to creating this kind of product, so there is no argument of quality!.

Joomla! Extensions are another point that I want to mention here. Although the number of WordPress plugins is much more than Joomla extensions (46K+ vs. 8K+), DON’T get flooded by that. The JED - Joomla Extension Directory cares a lot about its quality and is run by dozens of volunteers whose goal is to provide a slick overview of the current state of 3rd party extensions. This allows Joomla! to become suited to a particular industry rather than a general blogging layout.

3. Content Management.

Joomla! is a Content management system at heart and has some seriously great features that make content organization and management easier than ever. Content creation is made very easy by the inbuilt WYSIWYG editor and allows you to edit content without writing extra code. After your creation of content, you'll find a lot of possibilities to show it on the frontend.

As of Joomla! 3.5, adding an image is as easy as dragging and dropping it from your computer directly into the content. This works anywhere that you are using the default TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor. And if you want to add a module into an article, Joomla! 3.5 makes it really easy with a button directly on the editor toolbar. You don’t need to learn any syntax or remember the module details as the user interface does it for you.

4. PHP 7 Support.

Since Joomla! 3.5.0, Joomla! supports the most recent release of Zend’s PHP: PHP 7, which provides a significant performance boost to your website. Joomla! users can enjoy the benefit of that performance improvement. Joomla! still provides legacy PHP support going back to PHP version 5.4 for web servers that have not yet upgraded. Let’s look at the following result to see how well Joomla 3.5.1 (such an sample) and PHP 7.0.0 work together in terms of the amount of memory used and the overall loading time.

Wow, loading time is very important for a site, especially the site with high traffic, so from the result we can see that the loading time remarkably reduces and the same with used memory. This means that you will need less waiting time and have more space for other stuff. Really super cool, right?

5. Community

Joomla is more than just a CMS, its community is passionate, knowledgeable and worldwide. It’s not as big as WordPress community, but it’s big enough to ensure that answers are always just a click away, but small enough that individual voices are not lost in the din. This makes the Joomla community a great place to learn and share your knowledge, as well as contribute to Joomla’s wider success. Besides, Joomla has a beating heart by volunteers all over the world. If you are a Joomla fan, you can visit Joomla volunteer page to get experienced more and become a part of the team yourself. That would be great huh?

Are you ready to get started with Joomla! right now?

There are just a few reasons that make Joomla worth investing in. Joomla is released under the GPL license. If you want to turn your site into more stunning and desired site, Joomla is a really attractive option that you can’t ignore. You desire to make a big project by yourself? Don’t waste time but get experienced with Joomla! today.
